These are the travel adventures of David and Julie, who are lucky enough to partially retire in their late fifties with sufficient income to travel and explore this wonderful planet.

This site is not about package holidays and cruising (although we will use some specialist holidays where we are outside our comfort zone).

This site is aimed at people like us, those that want to see the world, want to explore but don’t want to be herded or pay out a fortune. 

Our aim is to pass on our knowledge and allow you to learn from our experiences and our mistakes. We hope we will also learn from our mistakes! 

We intend to document the things that other travel sites don’t cover, how to apply for visas, how to use local transport, how to access money across the globe without paying high charges, how to obtain local SIM cards. To name but a few.

Some of the site will cover destinations and their immediate surroundings. Destinations could be a city, tourist site or an unknown village. Other parts will cover experiences we have undertaken such as our Kenya Safari. Still other parts of the site will cover how to travel between cities and countries, getting Visas, the things to do and more important the things not to do. There will also be a section of the site covering wine, and in particular vineyard visits.

We will generally not be using 5-star accommodation or youth hostels, we will be using mid-range hotels and self-catering accommodation. There will be exceptions to this where we feel high end accommodation is necessary for either safety or health reasons.

We will generally be avoiding full and half board accommodation and instead will be telling you about the great local reasonably priced restaurants we find and the local dishes they serve. We will also tell you about the markets selling local produce and the bars where you can meet local people.  

We love planning our trips, we put a lot of effort into our pre-trip research.  We will publish our itinerates which you are welcome to copy of change to meet your own requirements. You gain from what we discover.

Throughout the site we will be providing links to useful resources.

We won’t be selling you anything, where we do deals that will pay us commission we will clearly declare this. We will only do these deals if we believe in the product or service.
